KYN28-12 12 kV Withdrawable Metal-clad Switchgear
KYN28-12 provides switching, distribution, control and protection in three-phase, 50 Hz power systems. It is used in substations, industrial facilities and large motor circuits. A withdrawable circuit-breaker truck is arranged at mid-height, and panels are configured to the primary circuit scheme.

Panel scheme and breaker ratings are selected for the project.
Construction & Installation
KYN28 identifies the metal-clad, withdrawable indoor design series 28; 12 is the rated voltage in kV. Environment designation, rated current and breaker breaking duty are specified for the selected equipment.
Compartments & circuit breaker
The enclosure uses bolted aluminium-zinc-coated steel construction with separate functional compartments. VS1 or VD4 circuit breakers can be selected for the scheme. The withdrawable arrangement supports inspection and replacement; the breaker configuration and ratings are specified for the project.
Busbar scheme & panel layout
The equipment can serve single-busbar or sectionalised single-busbar systems, with overhead or cable connections. Panels can be arranged against a wall or back to back. Aisles, maintenance access and foundation requirements are confirmed with the layout drawings.
Safety Interlocks
The catalogue describes five hazards the interlocks are intended to prevent. Confirm the available interlocking arrangement with the selected panel and circuit-breaker configuration. The list below describes interlock purposes, not operating instructions.
Truck movement
Hazard prevented: Moving the circuit-breaker truck under load.
Breaker operation
Hazard prevented: Unintended circuit-breaker opening or closing.
Earthing-switch position
Hazard prevented: Closing the circuit breaker while the earthing switch is closed.
Compartment access
Hazard prevented: Access to an energised compartment.
Energised circuit
Hazard prevented: Closing the earthing switch onto an energised circuit.
Ratings & Insulation Levels
| Parameter | Selection values |
|---|---|
| Rated voltage / frequency | 12 kV / 50 Hz |
| Rated current | 630, 1,250, 1,600, 2,000, 2,500 or 3,150 A |
| Power-frequency withstand voltage | 42 kV phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth; 48 kV across the isolating distance |
| Lightning impulse withstand voltage | 75 kV phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth; 85 kV across the isolating distance |
| Rated short-time withstand current, 4 s | 20, 25, 31.5 or 40 kA RMS |
| Rated peak withstand current | 50, 63, 80 or 100 kA peak |
| Degree of protection | IP4X enclosure; IP2X with the circuit-breaker compartment door open |
The values cover different configurations. They do not imply that every rated current is available with every withstand rating. Short-time withstand current and circuit-breaker short-circuit breaking current are separate requirements; both the network conditions and the selected breaker must be checked.
Dimensions & Service Conditions
Panel dimensions
- Width
- 650 / 800 / 1,000 mm
- Height
- 2,300 mm
- Depth
- 1,500 / 1,660 / 1,800 mm
The final combination depends on the circuit scheme and equipment configuration.
Normal service conditions
- Temperature
- −10 to 40°C
- Altitude
- Up to 1,000 m
- Relative humidity
- Daily average ≤95%; monthly average ≤90%
Free from severe pollution, chemical corrosion and severe vibration; seismic intensity no greater than 8 degrees as specified for the product.
Special conditions
Higher altitude, temperatures above 40°C or other special conditions require technical agreement. Elevated temperature may require current derating. High humidity or large temperature changes require suitable measures against condensation.
Configuration & Technical Documents
Agree the switchgear scope
- Primary circuit
- Share the single-line diagram, panel quantities and circuit duties. Select the busbar scheme, rated current and required fault withstand duty.
- Breaker & secondary circuits
- Confirm the selected breaker, protection and control requirements. Breaker breaking capacity must be checked separately from the switchgear withstand rating.
- Installation & connections
- Agree cable or overhead connections, panel dimensions, access and foundation interfaces against the layout.
The cabinet photograph identifies the product family. The final panel arrangement and included equipment are defined by the agreed project configuration.
Technical information for your purchase

Request for your configuration: the relevant catalogue, drawings and supporting technical documents. Drawing availability and any report’s applicable model and scope need review; they are not universal product certifications.
Send the details you have. A complete specification is not required to start; unresolved selections can be discussed before the supply scope is agreed.
